Chest #3 (in progress)

A wooden furniture piece, taller than the previous chests, with a lower drawer and a main compartment beneath a hinged lid. Its front carries decorative elements that mimic handles, while a stamped heat mark proclaims: The Honderich Furniture Co. Ltd., Milverton Ont., Red Seal Cedar Chest, Made in Canada. The lid’s hardware is broken, leaving the lock inoperative, hinting at stories of use and wear.

Recently acquired, this chest awaits closer research and contemplation. Its history will guide whether it is faithfully restored or creatively reimagined. There is room for artistic intervention, but any choice will honor the piece’s memory, allowing it to continue its journey while embracing the possibilities of renewal and narrative.
